We started our peace pilgrimage to Syria this year from Tehran.
Iran might not seem like the obvious country to begin a peace mission from as the mainline media generally designates Iran as the leader of the ‘axis of evil’ – a country dedicated to the eradication of Western civilisation as we know it. As per usual, of course, the media’s depiction of Iran is a long way from reality.
We met so many impressive people in Iran – peace activists mainly but also religious and community leaders – all of whom held a passion for greater openness and dialogue with the rest of the world.
My personal highlight was the Tehran Peace Museum – a center that had as its primary mission the eradication of chemical warfare. I met there men still suffering from the effects of mustard gas that they were exposed to during the Iran-Iraq war some 30 years ago!
The following segment from Press TV only covered our press conference in Tehran. It was a privilege there to share the stage with dear Mairead Maguire and Mother Agnes.
