by Jeanette Stephen

Its the end of an era – Dulwich Hill’s ‘Fighting Father’, Reverend David Smith, will be contesting his final Fight Night fundraiser for the Holy Trinity Church youth centre this Saturday.

That’s right – after 13 years, he’s hanging up the gloves (but not collar).Following his final Christians Vs Lions XXII Fight Night scheduled to start at 7pm.

The Anglican priest and prominent youth worker has decided to wind up the popular fundraiser due to parish, family and website commitments.

‘I’ve always said that there’s only so long that people will continue to pay good money to see me get beaten up, and that time has come”, Rev Smith told the Valley times yesterday today

“It won’t be the biggest show we’ve ever put till. And it;s not likely to run as smoothly as well-oiled machin,e but I can promise you some great displays of courage and good sportsmanship, appearances from some of the greats in Australian pugilism and good night amongst friends”
