CHARITY

WHEN Morris Hanna was elected as Mayor of Marrickville in 2005 he organised a charity dinner-dance to benefit local organisations.

Two years later Cr Hanna has been re-elected and has again made the fundraiser a priority.

‘There are a lot of charities in our area that receive some state and federal government funding. but it is never enough money for these great charities to do the important work that they do,” he said.

This year’s event, which is sponsored by The Glebe will be held at Petersham Town Hall on Saturday at 7.00pm. Former Test cricketer Mike Whitney will act as MC.

Council called for submissions from local youth charities to help share the funds an4 once the final amount has been collected, the money will be distributed to the most worthy organisations.

Tickets are $160 including entertainment, food and drinks. There will be an auction of amazing items including returns airfares to London with Gulf Air, a catered party for 40 people and a holiday in Melbourne.

“The event has taken a lot of effort to bring together but the results will be worthwhile,” Cr Hanna said. “I would like to thank all the sponsors and local businesses that have helped us make this event happen.”
